PAEDIATRIC SERVICES

At Bounce Abilities, our Exercise Physiologists support children’s physical development, overall health, and management of medical conditions through personalized exercise programs. We focus on holistic care for both the child and their family, offering services tailored to each child’s needs:

  • Assessment: We evaluate physical abilities and limitations, considering age, medical history, and conditions like cerebral palsy or autism, identifying challenges to address through physical activity.

  • Individualised Exercise Programs: Based on the assessment, we create safe, age-appropriate programs to improve strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, and endurance, helping manage symptoms and improve motor skills.

  • Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation: We guide safe exercise practices to prevent injury and provide rehabilitation support for recovery from injuries or surgeries.

  • Developmental Support: Our programs promote key developmental milestones, especially for children with developmental or neuromuscular conditions, focusing on motor skills and postural control.

  • Behavioural Support: We collaborate with other health professionals to create enjoyable physical activity environments that boost confidence, social skills, and mental well-being.

  • Family Education and Support: We work with families and support networks to integrate exercise into daily routines, promoting inclusion and supporting physical health outside of clinical settings.

At Bounce Abilities, we are committed to improving children’s physical health and well-being through comprehensive, family-centred care.

FUNCTION & GOAL ORIENTATED SERVICES

At Bounce Abilities, our Exercise Physiologists (EPs) support adults with disabilities by enhancing physical health, functional independence, and quality of life. Key areas of focus include:

  • Assessment and Individualised Exercise Programs: We evaluate physical capabilities, limitations, and health history to create personalized exercise plans aimed at improving strength, endurance, flexibility, mobility, and coordination.

  • Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention: Our EPs design rehab programs to restore function, prevent injuries, and improve joint stability and posture.

  • Chronic Condition Management: Through activity-based interventions, EPs help manage chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity, and focus on maintaining or improving functional abilities for neurological and musculoskeletal disabilities.

  • Functional Independence: We assist adults in regaining independence by improving the ability to perform daily activities like dressing, walking, and cooking, reducing reliance on others.

  • Social Engagement and Quality of Life: EPs encourage participation in community activities to reduce isolation, improve mobility, and boost overall well-being.

  • Education and Support: EPs educate on the importance of physical activity, offer guidance on integrating exercise into daily life, and support the development of healthy lifestyle habits.

In summary, our Exercise Physiologists help adults with disabilities improve strength, mobility, and confidence, enabling them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

CME THERAPY

Cuevas Medek Exercises (CME) therapy is a dynamic, specialised technique designed to support motor development in children with physical challenges, particularly those with neurological conditions like Down syndrome, developmental delays, and other motor disabilities. It involves gravity-assisted exercises that enhance balance, coordination, strength, and functional movement. This style of therapy plays a pivotal role in the following areas of childhood development:

  • Motor Skill Development: CME promotes essential motor skills through functional movements, helping children reach milestones like sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Neuroplasticity Stimulation: By encouraging functional movement patterns, CME stimulates neuroplasticity, helping the brain form new neural connections to improve motor function.
  • Promotes Independence: CME supports independence by teaching children to perform daily activities with proper movement patterns, enhancing mobility and self-sufficiency.
  • Tailored Approach: Exercises are individualised, adjusting based on the child’s needs and progress, ensuring effectiveness for children at various stages of development.
  • Postural Control: CME improves postural control, laying the foundation for more complex skills like walking, running, and jumping.
  • Playful and Engaging: Delivered in a fun, game-like manner, CME motivates children to stay engaged and enjoy the therapeutic process.
  • Muscle Strength and Flexibility: CME builds muscle strength, flexibility, and joint mobility, supporting overall physical development.

CME plays a key role in fostering motor skills, encouraging neuroplasticity, and promoting functional independence, helping children with developmental delays or neurological conditions reach their full physical potential.

AUTISM SWIM

The Autism Swim program is a specialised aquatic therapy designed to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in developing life skills, improving sensory processing, and enhancing communication, behaviour, and motor skills in a water-based environment. The program is tailored to the unique needs of each participant, creating a structured and safe space for learning and growth.

Key Components:

  • Individualised Approach: Tailored to each child’s abilities, focusing on swimming, water safety, and physical well-being.
  • Water Safety: Teaches essential water safety skills, including how to enter and exit the pool, float, and respond to emergencies.
  • Sensory Regulation: Utilises the calming effects of water to help manage sensory sensitivities, improve emotional regulation, and reduce anxiety.
  • Motor Skill Development: Enhances coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility through swimming techniques and exercises.
  • Communication and Social Skills: Encourages social interaction, turn-taking, and communication in a supportive environment.
  • Behavioural Benefits: The structured water environment promotes relaxation and emotional regulation, helping to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Confidence and Independence: Builds self-esteem and independence, empowering children to take on new challenges in and out of the water.

Program Structure: The program consists of one-on-one or small group sessions with instructors trained in autism and aquatic therapy, focusing on instruction, water play, and relaxation exercises to promote engagement and progress.

In summary, the Autism Swim program helps children with autism develop essential skills, improve water safety awareness, regulate sensory experiences, and gain confidence and independence in a supportive, enjoyable water environment.
